NARA Organic Wanan Dates

Wanan are large, long dates with a conical shape and a very dark skin – almost black, with purple hues. Unlike Medjool, which are bulging and heavy, Wanan appear more slender and elegant, with an airy and soft flesh. Their texture is close to a fine date paste, but without being sticky.

The harvest is done early, and the variety is only available for a limited period of time per year, in the "fresh" version, refrigerated immediately after harvest to preserve freshness.

Saudi Arabia

Our partner farm in Saudi Arabia is located in the picturesque Al Ghat region, approximately 200 kilometers northwest of the vibrant capital Riyadh. Al Ghat offers ideal conditions for growing dates, with hot summers and mild winters.

The farm is a pioneer of organic farming in Saudi Arabia and was one of the first farms in the country to receive EU organic certification. Our Saudi farmer attaches great importance to environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources and has decided not to use chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Many different varieties of dates are grown on the farm. We currently source 9 of our date varieties from this Saudi partner farm.

Wanan dates offer the same generous dose of potassium, fiber, and magnesium as other dates, but in a lighter form that is easier to integrate into your daily routine. Thanks to their moderate sugar content and aerated texture, they are also well tolerated by those with sensitive digestion or who avoid highly concentrated snacks.

Rich in antioxidants and vitamin B6, they contribute to a state of calm, cellular regeneration and hormonal balance. The ideal snack for hectic afternoons or for a discreet but satisfying snack between meetings.

Wanan are the choice of those who prefer subtlety over opulence. You can enjoy them as is, straight from the fridge, for a refreshing contrast between their soft texture and gentle sweetness. They are perfect in sophisticated and exotic combinations: try them with a dash of white miso and a macadamia nut for an umami contrast, or impress your friends by serving them a unique vegan snack of finely chopped Wanan dates over cinnamon almond yogurt.

In warm salads, along with bulgur, mint and pomegranate, they give a discreet oriental twist. They are less suitable for baking, but they shine on any simple, gourmet-inspired platter.
